Dosage information
In epilepsy: initiation of therapy is carried out in a single daily dose of 25 mg which is taken 14 days. Over the next 14 days a single daily dose increased to 50 mg, subsequently every 7-14 days it should be increased to 50-100 mg (for best therapeutic efficacy) which is supported by a dose of 100-200 mg taken once or twice in 24 hours.
Some patients for optimal efficiency of treatment require the appointment of higher doses up to 500 mg.
Bipolar affective disorder: for those people who are already taking Valproate initiation of therapy was shown in a dose of 25 mg taken every other day (the first 14 days). Then in the next 14 days they transferred to same dose every day. At the fifth week it can be increased to 50 mg in 1 or 2 divided doses. As a rule a maintaining dose of 100 mg is divided into 1 or 2 doses. The maximum permitted daily dose is 200 mg.
What may interact with Lamictal Dispersible?
Simultaneous treatment with valproic acid decreases its rate of metabolism and increases its half-life in almost 2 times.
Certain AEDs which are inducers of microsomal liver enzymes affect the acceleration of metabolism and glucuronidation of active ingredient.
Concurrent consumption with Carbamazepine or Risperidone can cause dizziness and other symptoms and they can disappear with decreasing of the doses.
Topiramate can increase its plasma concentration by 15%.
Minimal impacts on the allocation of 2-N-glucuronide have: Amitriptyline, Bupropion, Fluoxetine and Haloperidol.
What should I watch for while taking Lamictal Dispersible?
It has been proven that the poor efficiency of Lamotrigine including during an epileptic status may develop multiple organ dysfunction which may cause the patient's death.
Often it was reported about the development of rashes on the skin, usually noted during the first 2 months after initiation of therapy. Advantageously these lesions were mild and resolved without any treatment but occasionally severe cases were observed which required discontinuation of taking and hospitalization of the patient.
Mild rash usually doze independent and is a symptom of hypersensitivity whereas Lyell syndrome and Stevens-Johnson in 100% dependent on the dose.
It should be remembered that if you take AEDs then you can be at risk of suicide and therefore need to constantly check their psychological state.
Lamictal Dispersible assignment during pregnancy is possible only when the benefit of therapy is higher than the risk to the fetus.
