Many people, reaching a certain age, notice certain manifestations in themselves and cannot independently determine what kind of disease it is and what distinguishes them, even those that are similar in name. At first glance, they are very similar, but these diseases differ significantly. The difference between arthritis and arthrosis can be seen already from the names of diseases. For those who still confuse them we will describe their main differences. The second one causes problems of the joints while the first is also a pathological process in the joint. The main manifestations of first one: severe pain in the joint during movement, joint deformation, decreased mobility. In case of neglect, joint stiffness arises. The other one is accompanied by not only pain in movement, but also in rest, swelling, morning stiffness, skin over the joints can be hot to the touch. Movements are painful, but they do not stop, with swelling of soft tissues. In first illness the main destructive activity is performed not by inflammatory, but by degenerative processes in articular cartilage.
In simpler words, if the joint is very sore and swollen, the movements in the joint are painful and there is a crunch in the movements, the skin is hot to the touch a high probability of arthritis. If the joint does not ache painfully, it can be said constantly and over time (months of suffering) changes its shape, with the leg, arm or back gradually becoming limited in the volume of its movements, and from month to month it can be said that everything is worse and worse and there is more probability of arthrosis of the joint.
Arthrosis and arthritis symptoms:
1. Pain is one of the main signs. However the nature of pain in these diseases differs. So, with the first one pain manifests itself mainly only during movement and a strong additional load, while it may not be very strong (especially in the first stage of the disease). That’s why often people do not attach importance to it, launching the disease. In the second stage, the pain manifests itself even with a small load, and the third even at rest. However, it can subside if a person manages to occupy a comfortable position. But in the case of arthritis, the pain in rest does not subside. Particularly characteristic for this illness is night pain between three and five o’clock in the morning.
2. Crunch at an arthrosis arises because of that the cartilaginous layer breaks down and there is a friction of bones. However, if you sometimes crunch joints, then this is not a reason for panic. It has a specific sound: it’s not an easy click, but a rough, dry one. The higher the stage is the stronger is the crunch in the joint.
3. Decreased mobility and stiffness. In arthrosis decreases the amplitude of motion in the affected joint. The second disease is also manifested by stiffness in the whole body or in the joint.
4. Deformation.
The first illness can also be manifested by: Increase in temperature; Psoriasis; Inflammation of the eyes (sand in the eyes); Chills or excessive sweating; Weakness; Excretions from the genitals.
Prevention of arthritis and arthrosis:
Fitness, and in general, any moderate load helps to reduce weight, increase blood circulation, strengthen the muscle corset, which is very important for the prevention of these illnesses. However, it is important to be cautious here: excessive load on joints, injuries or improper performance of certain exercises, on the contrary, can lead to problems. Therefore, at first, it is good to practice or consult a trainer (especially if you already feel pain in the joints). However, for prevention, you can perform the so-called articular gymnastics it is quite simple and does not require special equipment or a fitness instructor’s control. Activities in the pool are also good, as the water load on the joints is much less. If you already have one of the diagnoses, then you can only do it after consulting a doctor (and in an acute period, training is contraindicated at all!)
It is also worth reviewing your attitude to nutrition. It is better to give up red meat and foods with high fat content. For bones are also good cartilage and gelatin (for example, chilli). Doctors also recommend increasing the water intake to 2-3 liters per day. Give up alcohol. You can start taking vitamins (groups A, D, B) and calcium.
Also the prevention include: Protection of joints from hypothermia; Wearing shoes on a comfortable heel; Exception of crossing legs in sitting position; Weight control; Healthy lifestyle, rest and sleep, exclusion of stress.
Treatment of arthritis and arthrosis:
There are a lot of methods that are used. First of all, the load on the joints is limited. With arthritis used anti-inflammatory drugs (including hormones) ointments, injections. Are applied therapeutic exercise, orthopedic regimen, therapeutic diet and physiotherapy.
