What is Generic Aricept?

Generic Aricept refers to drugs which are used for dementia in patients with Alzheimer disease. The medication has a therapeutic effect by improving cholinergic neurotransmission. This effect is achieved by increasing the concentration of acetylcholine; people with such a disease have its lower level and it reduces the possibility to think, to remember. Unfortunately taking Aricept will not make a disease to go away.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take Generic Aricept?

Your doctor should tell you that Generic Ariсept is not safe if you have: rhythm disorders, gastric and duodenal ulcers, COPD (including asthma), general anesthesia, use NSAIDs or other anticholinergics, hypersensitivity to active ingredient. Aricept not approved during pregnancy, infancy, lactation. Inform your doctor if you have an upcoming surgery.

How should I take Aricept?

Take Aricept once a day a whole pill (not chewed, not broken) before bedtime dissolving it in the mouth or with liquid or food! Follow directions and don’t stop the treatment (only if your doctor advised you that) and don’t increase or decrease a dosage Aricept.

Dosage information

After clinical evaluation of efficacy normal dose is 5 mg / day for a month but it can be increased to 10 mg once a day. Doses over 10 mg / day (it’s maximum for mild severity) have not been studied.

Overdose can increase muscle weakness that can lead to death in the case of destruction of the respiratory muscles. If you forgot to take a tablet then take it at the earliest opportunity but if you forgot it every day during 1 week then call your physician.

What may interact with Aricept?

Clinical experience with donepezil is limited. The physician should be aware of the possibility of new, not yet known interactions. Donepezil or its metabolism products don’t inhibit metabolism of theophylline, warfarin, cimetidine, digoxin, sertraline, etc.

What should I watch for while taking Aricept?

Donepezil therapy can be started only if there is a person who cares for the sick and will constantly monitor if a patient taking pills. Supportive therapy can continue until the therapeutic effect of the drug is obtained.  That’s why the effect of donepezil should be regularly evaluated.

You should avoid combination of Aricept with other inhibitors of acetylcholine esterase, agonists or antagonists of cholinergic system. The ability to drive and to control mechanisms can be impaired.

What side effects may I notice from Generic Aricept?

The main effects are: diarrhea, muscle cramps, nausea, vomiting and insomnia.

Other common adverse effects were headache, stroke, rhinitis, disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and dizziness.

Sometimes there were cases of syncope, bradycardia, sinoatrial and atrioventricular blockade, seizures.

Liver function disorders and hepatitis are rare. Aricept online should be abolished when it is impossible to determine the cause of liver dysfunction.

There were several reports of anorexia, gastrointestinal bleeding.
