What is Estrace?

Estrace (estradiol) — hormonal estrogenic agent, identical to the endogenous estradiol produced by the ovaries (formed in the body of women, starting with the first period and ending with a period of menopause).

According to the peculiarities of the action of the preparation, some diseases can serve as a prohibition to use or require dose adjustment.  These factors include: hypersensitivity to estradiol, pregnancy, estrogen-dependent malignant neoplasms or suspicion on them, unusual or undiagnosed genital or uterine bleeding, thrombophlebitis or thromboembolic disease in active phase (excluding treatment of breast and prostate cancer). How should I take Estrace?

Dosage and a length of treatment must be set individually. What may interact with?

The use of estradiol increases the effectiveness of lipid-lowering drugs. It reduces the effects of the male sex hormone, hypoglycemic, diuretic, antihypertensive drugs and anticoagulants. While the use of phenylbutazone and certain antibiotics (Ampicillin, Rifampicin) concentration of the medication in the plasma decreases, due to changes in the microflora in the gut. Barbiturates, anxiolytic drugs (tranquilizers), narcotic analgesics, drugs for general anesthesia, some antiepileptic drugs (carbamazepine, phenytoin), inducers of microsomal liver enzymes accelerates metabolism of estradiol could materially affect the results of the treatment. What should I watch for while taking Estrace?

Estradiol treatment must be preceded by a thorough gynecological examination that, during prolonged therapy, should be repeated at least 1 time per year. At occurrence of irregular menses during treatment (in women with an intact uterus) is necessary to conduct diagnostic curettage to exclude malignant tumors of the uterus.

•        In male - sensitivity and tenderness of the breast, decreased libido, gynecomastia

•        Other: reduced tolerance to carbohydrates, weight change, cramps

•        After prolonged use — a violation of calcium metabolism, sodium and water with the formation of peripheral edema

Hold the pills inside the blister packaging. Expiration time of the tablets that have been unpacked may be significantly reduced.
