What is Namenda?

The main ingredient of Namenda is Memantine. It reduces symptoms of depression, fatigue, and improves the patient's ability to concentrate, improves memory, promotes correction of motor disorders. Namenda has a protective function, adjusting the level of a chemical called glutamate in the brain and it is involved in learning and memory processes. It activates certain chemicals in the brain and as a result certain amount of chemicals (such as calcium which is responsible for storing information) enters nerve cells of the brain. Cells of the brain of people with Alzheimer burn too much glutamate. Namenda helps to regulate the activity of glutamate. That in turn can improve the ability of the brain to process information and somewhat return memory.

In what kind of disease treatment Namenda is helpful?

Namenda is used for Parkinson's disease, in violation of the nervous system, fatigue, impaired memory, reduced ability to concentrate, the loss of interest in activities, the spastic spinal and cerebral syndromes (after the stroke, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injuries) in parkinsonism and dementia: vascular, Alzheimer's, mixed.

Namenda increases the effects of anticholinergic drugs, neuroleptics, barbiturates, bromocriptine, levodopa, amantadine and dopamine agonist’s receptors. It may change action of Baclofen and Dantrolen.

Namenda in combination with Aricept, Exelon, Reminyl or Сognex may be more effective.
